Before Arcadia first premiered, I managed to set aside just enough time to produce this quick little Making Of featurette, to screen alongside it. Since then, people could only catch it on the rare DVD copies- until now!

As the film was produced on a £20 note and spare time, I hope you might be interested to see how we did it. It’s a very brisk tour but covers most of the stages, and is full of interesting production shots.

Spoiler warning: If you haven’t seen all of Arcadia yet, this little doc might spoil some things. And it probably wouldn’t make much sense anyway.

Just a quick note on Internet Story: more delay I’m afraid. We’re now hoping for a December premiere in London.

In other news, my thanks to those who attended probably the last public screening of Arcadia at the Portobello Film Festival. Thanks for laughing/semi-gasping at the right bits! There were also loads of neat films in the programme, so it was a great fest to be part of.

UPDATE: I put the wrong date down previously. Arcadia is screening on Monday the 7th of September. Not the 8th. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The Portobello Film Festival, London’s hippest and trendiest film event, is showcasing Arcadia! It will be showing on the 7th of September, from around 8pm. I really recommend coming to see the whole programme (from 6pm), as it’s sure to show a load of cool films, including Hip Hip Hooray by fellow director Lynsey Miller. It’s FREE entry and I’ll be there, so come and say “Hi!”

For the full details look here.

On a side note, I thought it was funny that Arcadia had been rated unsuitable for anyone below the age of 12. I’d always seen it as a film that a lot of kids might enjoy, even if it does have some scary, or at least unsettling, moments. I guess my childhood featured a lot more disturbing Czech stop-frame animations…

Just a quick post. Was very surprised recently when my Internet Story research brought up a strangely similar -but actually real!- website. Here it is: Al1′s Nine Grand Quest.

Hmm. I’m very much considering adapting the script to include this sort of thing. I’ll let you know how it goes.

In other news, Arcadia received another strong reception, this time at the Sci Fi London Festival. It also got a rather nice write-up from the people at Vector Magazine, referring to it as “a shining example of how well an ultra-low-budget short can work”. Yeah, sounds about right! Thanks!

Well, not such a quick post after all.

Arcadia will be shown at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival very soon. It’s part of the Long Shorts Programme on the 2nd of May. I’m very excited about seeing it on the big screen at the Apollo Cinema in Piccadilly Circus. Perhaps I’ll see you there?

We’re making some great progress with Internet Story, having just finished recording the vocals. We went through the lines in almost microscopic detail but we got some great performances in the end, and still finished early! Rather unconventionally, we’re doing the visuals after the audio, so we’ll be filming very shortly.

I’ve also come back from Morocco quite recently, having been out there on a shoot for a gritty action film with Pure Grass Films. Filming and editing the official “Making Of” was great fun and I was happy with how it turned out. Very much looking forward to seeing the finished film.

Bye for now.
